Listen to Stimmerman's new single "Painted Smile" here!! https://linktr.ee/shrederella
Summer is winding down here in the northern lands and there is a sort of melancholy feeling coming in, a shift into new temperatures and feelings. Stimmerman's new single "Painted Smile" is the perfect backdrop for the fading into fall. I sent Eva Lawitts the lead singer and bassist of the band some questions about the single, upcoming album "Goofballs", and tour with Tiny Gun they are on now!!! Look here at dates!
Friday 8/30-Albany, NY — Albany Distilling Co Saturday 08/31- Montreal, CN — Casa Del Popolo Sunday 09/01- Littleton, NH — The Loading Dock
Wednesday 09/04- Brooklyn, NY — Sunny Vale
Valore: What were you feeling while writing "Painted Smile"? If you don't mind me asking the inspiration for the lyrics?
Eva: There are these intuitions we feel around people who are suffering but are trying to hide it, like little intimations of their inner world that get accidentally let out in lulls in conversation, or a long look in their eyes that feels misplaced, just tiny insights wordlessly leaked. Painted Smile is about feeling dumb and guilty for either missing those signals or choosing to ignore them. They alI think my lyrics tend to be kinda vague, but that's what the song is about to me.
What is the vibe for the rest of the upcoming album "Goofballs"?? How is it different from what you have previously released? Any hints on when it will be released??
Goofballs! Yeah, I chose the name Goofballs exactly because it will be a little different from my EP Pleasant Vistas in a Somber Place. This album has a return to a sense of humor that I think was absent on the EP, and quite a bit of silliness and mania despite the subject matter. To me, the album is about survivor's guilt and addiction, so of course Goofballs is also an allusion to barbiturates or, you know, any cocktail thereof. I think it's a little more honest and vulnerable than Pleasant Vistas also, there's less of an emphasis on shredding and riffs and more "songwriting". It honestly makes me extremely uncomfortable to listen to it because there are some sticky inner parts of myself on there. And I'm not sure when it's coming out! It's certainly been complete for a while now, so I'm just trying to plan out my moves in the most effective way possible. I hope to god though that it will see daylight before 2019 is up.
Congrats to your upcoming tour with Tiny Gun, what city/shows are you hype about??
We're playing Montreal on the 31st, which I'm extremely excited about! I've never been up there. Truth be told, I'm excited about all the shows, that's one of the great benefits of doing a short tour like this- you get to really only pick places you actually want to go.
What kind of things are you eating on the road??
Haha, we'll see!! People who know me know that my diet is extremely restrictive- I don't eat any dairy, gluten, grains, or sugar or carbs of any kind, so I'm pretty much limited to meat and some choice vegetables. When I used to tour like 200 days a year I was a vegan, which was about 1000x easier than this. I bought about $45 worth of jerky so hopefully that keeps me out of trouble.
Any last words?? Ways to deal with existential dread that lingers in these crazy dimension we dwell in?
Do shit for other people haha. When you can see a way that it's possible for you to add ease or relief to someone's life, just do it, it doesn't have to be hard. Just try to be a little less shitty than you were yesterday, it creates a beautiful illusion that life might have meaning.
Thanks be to shreddy aka Eva for the interview please listen and go to their shows coming up!!
